HOW WE HIRE FOR EARLY CAREERS SCHEMES

During the application process, we want to learn more about your skills and interests. Throughout our process, we’ll be looking for how you demonstrate our values and behaviours. Stages are customised by role and you’ll be given more information when you apply. Below is an overview of what you can expect.

STEP 1 – ONLINE APPLICATION

The start of the process is an application form where you will be asked to complete information about yourself to check you are eligible for the scheme and your motivation for applying. Before you begin your application take time to research the scheme and role that you feel suits you best for the stage you’re at in your career journey.

STEP 2 – ONLINE TESTS

If you’re eligible for the scheme you have applied for, you will be invited to take part in a short interactive assessment. This could include strength-based questions, situational judgement exercises, or coding tasks depending on what role you are applying for. Before your assessment, you will be given time to practise some questions.

STEP 3 – VIDEO INTERVIEW

For most of our schemes you will be invited to respond to a number of questions through a digital platform. At this stage, we want to find out more about you, your strengths and your motivation for applying. Most of the questions will require you to record a video response, with some requiring a written response. Don’t worry though as you will have the opportunity to get familiar with recording your responses. You will also be able to re-record your responses. Some of our technical roles will not require you to complete a video interview.

STEP 4 – ASSESSMENT CENTRES

The final stage of our process is an assessment centre, which is usually held virtually. This involves a series of exercises such as a group exercise and an interview, designed to give you the best chance to show us what you’re capable of, as well as your motivation for joining the BBC, the role and scheme. You’ll also have the opportunity to meet BBC staff and ask any questions. For some schemes you will be asked to complete a pre-assessment task ahead of the day, or attend a virtual interview.
